The Archbishop of Newark announced the The Archdiocese of Newark and the Dioceses of Camden, Metuchen, Trenton and Paterson have established a victim compensation program. This program will provide compensation to victims of child sexual abuse by clergy and employees of the dioceses in New Jersey whose legal claims were barred by New Jersey's statute of limitations.

NEW Law in New Jersey To
Extend the Statute of Limitations
​
On May 13, 2019, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed the Victims’ Rights Bill into law,
effectively reforming the statute of limitations for child sexual abuse survivors in New Jersey. Among other things, the law creates a two-year window for parties to bring lawsuits based on sexual abuse that would be time-barred even with the new statute of limitations, and expands the categories of potential defendants in civil actions.
